Ayurveda and yoga are such ancient disciplines that practitioners have had countless centuries to experiment with effects of energy, including the energies of plants. They discovered that certain herbs, used properly, could enhance the vibration of prosperity in the being.
Lotus Seed and Root (Nelumbo nucifera)
Lotus brings material and spiritual abundance to life. This herbal food relaxes the mind and opens the heart chakra and the root chakra. The seeds, especially, enhance devotion and spiritual aspirations. Of course, the beautiful flower with its roots in the mud and its petals thrusting toward heaven, has been a symbol of spiritual renewal for millennia.
Lotus is a rejuvenating tonic, especially for the heart and reproductive system. Both the seed and the root can be prepared as food. Steamed, both are delicious ingredients in stews or stir-fries. You may also take the powdered herb in capsules or brew it as a tea.
Holy Basil Leaf, "Tulsi" (Ocimum sanctum)
This unassuming little garden plant plays a central role in the folk medicine of South Asia. Seen cultivated near temples and private homes, it is believed to purify the air and to sanctify the environs, thus the name. Tulsi is probably the most sacred plant in India, as it opens the heart and mind and encourages devotion. Using tulsi supports the energy of attraction, the energy that draws prosperity near and keeps it in our lives.
Energetically, tulsi also clears the aura and stimulates the immune system. Quite recently, tulsi has been getting serious attention in the scientific literature. Tulsi has been used to treat diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, normalizing both blood sugar and blood fats, including cholesterol and triglycerides. Traditionally, tulsi is given as a daily tea in a dose of three teaspoons of dry herb brewed into water.
